Kiarsha Curtis led six Shaw players who scored in double figures
with 19 points as the fifth-ranked Lady Bears scored over 100 points for the
sixth time this year in rolling past Virginia State 105-53.
It was status quo as Shaw (14-1, 4-0, 3-0) jumped out to a 20-8 first half lead
at the 11:30 mark of the first half. Another
9-0 run put Shaw ahead 29-8 with 8:39 remaining.
Guard Jessica Hawkins and Nastassia Boucicault controlled the first half
and the game finishing with a combined 19 of Shaw’s 29 assists.
The scored 13 and 12 points, respectively and Hawkins was one rebound
away from a triple-double. The
Lady Bears shot 50 percent from the field, but was even more remarkable was the
Lady Bear defense which forced Virginia State (5-8, 1-2, 1-2) into 35 turnovers
and 34 percent shooting from the field.
Erica Glasper led the Lady Trojans with 12 points, while
Jennifer Rhodan added 10. Joy Hairston had 18 points, while Bilisa
Perkins added 17.
Shaw will play at Winston-Salem State at the Joel Coliseum
Annex on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
