Kiarsha Curtis scored 34 points to lead four Lady Bears who scored in double figures as third-ranked Shaw defeated St. Paul’s 104-38.  It was the 48th-straight win over a CIAA foe.

Shaw (22-1, 12-0, 7-0) opened the game with a 10-0 lead as Curtis’ runner in the lane with 17 minutes, 38 seconds remaining in the first half forced St. Paul’s head coach Serena King to call a timeout.  St. Paul’s subsequently scored on the next possession to cut it to 10-2.  But that’s as close as the Lady Tigers (0-22, 0-11, 0-6) would come all game.  Shaw shot 56 percent from the field in the first half, while limiting St. Paul’s to 23 percent in taking a 48-18 halftime lead.

While the Lady Tigers shot marginally better in the second half (33 percent), Shaw shot even better shooting 61 percent in the half, 59 percent for the game.  The Lady Bears defense was as much up to the task as the offense, forcing St. Paul’s into 32 turnovers.  Joy Hairston scored 25 points, while Nastassia Boucicault and Jenna Bradford had 10 points a-piece.  Three Lady Tigers scored in double figures led by Tyanka Lee’s 14 points.

Shaw will play its final regular season home game on Saturday as they host Bowie State at 5:30 p.m. at Spaulding Gymnasium.
