SALISBURY – The third-ranked Shaw
women’s basketball team defeated Livingstone 89-60 at William Trent
Gymnasium. The Lady Bears run their win streak over CIAA opponents to 45.
It was all Shaw (19-1, 9-0) from the opening tip as the Lady Bears opened the
game with a 16-0 lead, connecting on four-of-four three-pointers with Kiarsha
Curtis knocking down two. Livingstone’s (6-12, 2-6) first points of the game came on
a lay-up by Love brown at the 15:46 mark of the first half.
Consecutive baskets by Lamika Davis and Brown pulled Livingstone to with
in 16-7. Another lay-up by Brown
at the 13:42 mark pulled the Lady Blue Bears to 16-9.
Jenna Bradford’s jumper with 9:02 remaining in the first gave Shaw its
biggest lead of the game to that point 32-15.
Shaw led 50-31 at halftime.
Livingstone opened with the first five
points of the second half to pull to within 50-36.
The Lady Blue Bears continued to hang around but would get no closer as
the Lady Bears were too much. Kiarsha
Curtis led the Lady Bear with 23 points. Joy
Hairston and Nastassia Boucicault had 18 and 16 points, respectively.
Sherree Gillespie led Livingstone with 21 points.
Shaw will host Virginia Union on Tuesday at
5:30 p.m. at Spaulding Gymnasium.
