– The #2 Shaw women's basketball team traveled down I-85 to Brayboy Gym, and
defeated Johnson C. Smith 81-68. It was the Lady Bears 51st straight win
over a CIAA opponent.

opened up an 21-point lead on the Lady Bears in the first half. The rim
was just not Shaw’s friend in the beginning of the contest as the team would
shoot a season low 36%.
It would take approximately 6 minutes and 46 seconds for Shaw’s side of the
scoreboard to read in double figures.
The Lady Bears never led in the first half and as matter of fact, went into the
locker room down by nine points, 42-33.
In the second half, Lauren Goss would open up the game with 11 quick points
within the first five minutes of play. However, that would not be enough to
stop the red hot Lady Bears, who shot 47% and outscored the Bulls 48 to 26 to
improve to 25-1, 15-0 CIAA. The Bulls dropped to 18-7, 9-5 CIAA.
Goss led all scorers and rebounders with 29 points, 12 boards and two blocks.
Senior Terri Edwards, fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points
and nine rebounds. Rochelle Bodie brought down a career high 12 rebounds and
scored six points in the loss.
Joy Hairston had a team high 23 points, eight rebounds, three steals, a block
and an assist for Shaw. Kiarsha Curtis added 20 points, nine steals and
three assists in the victory. Jessica Hawkins chipped in 10 points, seven
boards, seven assists, four steals and a block.
Shaw
will play its last regular season game of the season traveling to Petersburg,
VA to take on Virginia State Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
