Jacques Curtis

HEAD COACH
 

In six years Jacques Curtis has taken Shaw University women’s basketball to a level never before seen in the history of basketball at the university.  Not only has he guided the Lady Bears to three straight CIAA Tournament Championships,  he has turned the program into  national prominence.

The 2005-06 season marked his sixth season on the bench and over the past four season the Lady Bears have broke the 29 game win barrier.  They have also gone unbeaten (16-0) in the CIAA for the past four seasons.  The 32-2 mark last season was the best in school history.
 

The Lady Bears also earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament the last  four  seasons.  For the past two seasons they have won the South Atlantic Region and a trip to the Elite 8.

In the last four years he has guided the Lady Bears to an impressive 119-13 (.901%) won-lost record.  Also, over the four seasons, he has guided the Lady Bears to a CIAA record 77 game win streak which includes post season play.  Including this season which is his sixth,  Curtis has posted an impressive 141-48 (.746%) record.

Curtis was named Shaw University head Coach July 15, 2000.  He began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant men’s coach at Shaw under the tutelage of Alfonza Carter now the Athletics Director.  After his tenure as an assistant, he moved on to his first head coaching position at his alma mater Savannah State University as Head Men’s Coach in 1998.
 

Curtis graduated from Savannah State with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering Technology and went on to earn a master’s degree in Information Science from North Carolina Central Univ.
