For
the second-straight year, the Shaw women's basketball team had four players
selected All-CIAA and guard Jessica Hawkins was selected the CIAA's Defensive
Player of the Year, as well as Kiarsha Curtis being named to the
All-CIAA. Also for the second-straight year, head coach Jacques Curtis
was named CIAA Joy Hairston and Natassia Boucicault were named to
the All-CIAA team for the first time.
Hawkins, a junior from Raleigh and perhaps the league's best all-around player,
is having another outstanding season for the Lady Bears. She leads the
CIAA in steals (4.3) and field goal percentage (.594) and is averaging 11.2
points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.
Curtis, a senior from Capital Heights, MD
is sixth in the CIAA in scoring (17.5), which is also in the top 50 in the
nation. She is second in the conference in steals (3.9), leads the conference
in three-point field goal percentage (.413) and three-pointers made (2.4).
She has been named CIAA Player of the Week once this
season.
Hairston, a senior from Durham, NC leads
the team and is third in the conference in scoring (18.9) She is shooting
55 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range, both of which
ranks her third in the conference. She is also the team's second leading
rebounder (6.7)
Boucicault, a junior from Brooklyn, NY is
one of the top newcomers in the league. Her 6.4 assists per game lead the
conference and rank her in the top 10 in the nation. She also averages
12.9 points and 3.4 steals per game.
Curtis is in his fifth season as head coach of the Lady Bears. He has
compiled a 106-41 record and was named NCAA Division II Coach of the Year last
year.
