Lady Bears’ Bozeman Burns Lady Blue Bears For Game High 24 Points
January 26, 2008 – Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University Lady Bears battled the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College. The Lady Bears brushed back the Lady Blue Bears for 35 points off turnovers and for a lead as large as 25 points to defeat Livingstone 86 – 68.
The Lady Bears’ #5 Shana “Showtime” Andrus (Guard / 6 – 0 / Junior / Akron, OH) took possession of the opening tip-off. Andrus aided the Bears to a 3 – 2 lead after she made one of two free throw attempts and then launched an assist to #33 Celanese “Sharp Shooter” Bozeman (Guard / 5 – 9 / Junior / Hampton, VA) for the fast break lay-up. Shaw went on to lead 6 – 5 with a behind the arc basket by Bozeman. The Lady Bears doubled their lead after a back door bucket by Andrus and then two consecutive scores from subbed in #21 NaKeisha “Hoop Queen” Anthony (Guard / Forward / 5 – 10 / Senior / Charlotte, NC). Livingstone took a thirty second timeout as Shaw led 12 – 5. Immediately out of the timeout, Bozeman sunk her second three-pointer as Anthony made a turnaround jumper. The Lady Bears augmented their double digit point margin advantage of 14 points over the Lady Blue Bears with a tough tossed in lay-up by #11 Jessica “The Answer” Davis (Guard / 5 – 5 / Junior / Cleveland, OH) and two made free throws by #25 Jamie “Guru” Goshen (Guard / 6 – 0 / Senior / Chesapeake, VA). Shaw took a commanding 26 – 9 lead with nine minutes remaining in the first half. Livingstone’s low fueled offense slowly started to find more success with their shot selection. Nevertheless, Shaw continued to connect on all cylinders as #55 Tavia Clemendor (Forward / 6 – 0 / Senior / Danville, VA), Anthony, Bozeman each excited the packed crowd with a made basket and the free after being fouled on the play. The dazzling displays of athleticism awarded Shaw with a 35 – 18 lead. A couple of key substitutions and key conversions helped the Lady Blue Bears trim down their supersized deficit. However, Shaw still led 41 – 33 at halftime.
At the start of the second half, both contenders scored on their first three possessions. The Lady Bears stretched their already considerably large lead after their consecutive scoring series was capped with a fade-a-way jumper by Anthony. Inside the 13 minutes mark, Shaw lunged out ahead of Livingstone 57 – 35. The Lady Bears marched to a 74 – 52 lead after Bozeman connected on four straight free throws after two consecutive fouls were charged to the Lady Blue Bears. Then, Shaw scored off of a passing drill from Anthony to Bozeman, from Bozeman to #52 KeyAuna Jenkins (Forward / 6 – 0 / Junior / Cleveland, OH), and from Jenkins to Goshen for the banked in basket. Livingstone was credited with a couple of scores, but Shaw rapidly responded with a three point play, steal and then lay-up by #3 Tanisha “Make it Rain” McGaughey (Guard / 5 – 11 / Sophomore / Norfolk, VA). At the 5:28 mark, the Lady Bears held their largest lead of 25 points, 86 – 61. Livingstone attempted to better their point production on numerous occasions, but the Lady Bears stingy defense cancelled all comeback chances.
The Lady Bears were led in scoring by #33 Celanese Bozeman with a game and season high 24 points (two rebounds / one block). Providing additional scoring was #21 NaKeisha Anthony with 17 points (a team high seven rebounds / five assists / two steals).
