ladY bEARS COME UP BIG ON SENIOR night

Shaw downs Livingstone, 78-68

 

 RALEIGH, NC – The Lady Bears wrap up their regular season the way they started the season which was on a winning note. Shaw finish the regular season 18-9 overall and 14-6 in conference play while the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College fall to 12-14 overall and 9-10 in the CIAA.

 

In the first half it seemed as if either team could have come out with a win and clam victory. There was poor shooting on both sides of the ball in the first half with the Lady Bears shooting 35.5 percent only making 11-of-31 shots and hitting only one-of-11 (9.1%) from beyond the 3-point arc. Livingstone didn’t shot any better only making 10-of-29 (34.5%) shots and 27.3 percent (three-of-11) from behind the three-point line in the first. The first half saw four ties and two lead changes before Shaw took the led with 1:46 left in the first half. The Lady Bears took the led a half with the score 33-34 and never look back in the second. The Lady Bears went on a 10-0 run to start the second half before Livingstone would score at 17:10 in the second. Shaw would go up by as may as 15 points before Livingstone cut the led to 10 but it was not enough to hold off the Lady Bears.  

 

The Lady Bears would have four player score in double-figures in their victory. Shaw was led by sophomore Celanese Bozeman (5’9, Guard, Hampton, VA) who score team-high 19 points plus grabbed nine rebounds, Jamie Goshen (6’0, JR, Guard, Chesapeake, VA) who dropped 15 point and also snatched five rebounds, and Na’Keisha Anthony (5’10, JR, Guard, Charlotte, NC) and senior Carletta Harrell (5’10, Forward, Cleveland, OH) adding 14 and 11 points respectively in the Lady Bears victory.  Shaw scored 30 points in the paint, 29 points off 28 Livingstone turnovers, 23 second chance points and 23 points off the bench in their victory tonight.

 

Showing up big for the Lady Blue Bears was Lina “Love” Brown who score game-high 28 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for a double-double and Clintoria Bryant who add 15 point for Livingstone in the effort.

 

The Lady Bears of Shaw University will enter the 2007 CIAA Tournament as No. 3 seed and will receive a first round bye as of the CIAA Standing released by the CIAA Conference Office on Thursday, February 22nd.
