Too Many Miss Shots Hurt Lady Bears in 82-63 loss to ECSU
February 3, 2007
Elizabeth City, NC – The Lady Bears of Shaw University (13-8, 9-5 CIAA) shot 32.9% on the night making only 24 of 73 shots while the Lady Vikings of ECSU (16-5, 13-1 CIAA) shot 49.3% on the night. Shaw got off to a slow start in the first half shooting 31.3% and scoring only 25 points to ECSU’s 42. The Lady Bears would improve in the second be it seemed too little to late as they fell 82-63 to the Elizabeth City State.
Despite a tough loss the Lady Bears would have three players scoring in double figures led by Jamie Goshen (6’0, SR, Guard, Chesapeake, VA) who had 15 points. She was followed by Na’Keisha Anthony (5’10, JR, Guard, Charlotte, NC) with 14 and Nicky Souter (6’2, JR, Forward, Brooklyn, NY) who had 10 in a hard fought effort by the Lady Bears. Shaw scored 34 points in the paint, 16 points off 23 ECSU turnovers, and 32 second chance points. The Lady Bears just could never get things flowing there way.
Standing out for the Lady Vikings was Joyce Freeman who was just one of three players to score a double-double on the night with game high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Deanna Price recorded a triple double on the night for the Lady Vikings in their victory.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Tuesday, February 6th as they to take on the Lady Tigers of Saint Paul’s College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. For additional information, please contact the Shaw University Office of Sports Information at mwilliams@shawu.edu
