Latasha Shipman led four Lady Bears who scored in double figures as Shaw rolled
past Virginia State 85-63 at Daniel Gymnasium.
Shaw (3-0, 4-0, 12-2) never trailed in the game, shooting 55 percent in the
first half, forcing 13 first half Lady Trojan turnovers and holding them to 30
percent shooting from the field. Joy Hairston (11 points) sparked the Lady
Bears going 3-of-4 from three-point range in the first half as Shaw led 42-27 at
halftime. The Lady Bears held their biggest lead if the game 78-39
on a lay-up by Hairston with 8:41 remaining in the second as they shot a
sizzling 60 percent from the field in the half and 57 percent for the
game. LaTonya Hall had a double-double with 14 points and 100 assists,
while Kiarsha Curtis had 13 points. Tyechia Cooke led the Lady Trojans
with 19 points.
The Lady Bears will host Winston-Salem State on Thursday at Spaulding Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
