Hawkins had another outstanding all-around performance scoring 20 points
grabbing nine rebounds, dishing out four assists and recording five steals as
14th-ranked Shaw defeated Livingstone 60-46 at Spaulding Gymnasium.
Livingstone (3-4, 5-12) went ahead 11-8 on a three-pointer by Kautelza Richards
with 11 minutes 27 seconds remaining in the first half. Livingstone
extended its lead to 17-12, but regained the lead 22-19 on a three-point play by
Hawkins with 3:52 remaining in the first half. Both teams shot only 29
percent in the half, but Shaw led 26-24 at halftime.
Shaw (17-2, 9-0) opened the half on a 9-1 run, then led 51-39 with seven minutes remaining. The score remained that way until Dennisa Herndon's three-pointer with 3:04 remaining cut the Shaw lead to 51-12. That's as close as the Blue Bears would come.
Chrystal Baptist recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Richards led Livingstone with 17 points.
Shaw will travel to Richmond on Tuesday to take on Virginia Union at 5:30 p.m.
