Lady Bears Convincing in Quarterfinals Victory over Livingstone

The Shaw women's basketball team brutally defeated the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone 66-34 in the quarterfinal round of the CIAA Women's Basketball Tournament at the RBC Center. 

Costly first half turnovers (19) and poor shooting (4-23) quickly dwindled
Livingstone's chances of pulling off a major upset of the top-seeded team.Livingstone held a brief 5-2 advantage in the game's opening seven minutes before the Lady Bears scored 21 unanswered points to take a 23-5 lead with 4:01 to go in the first half.  The Lady Blue Bears shot a dismal 17.4 percent from the field and only connected on one of its seven free throw attempts in the first stanza.  Shaw led 30-9 at halftimeShaw enjoyed its biggest cushion, 59-22, on layup by Tameka Brown with 6:54 remaining in the game.

"They played bad and we played bad," said Shaw head coach Jacques Curtis.  "It wasn't a very entertaining game."

Shaw was led by Latasha Shipman who finished with 14 points.  Livingstone's ship was captained by junior Chloe' McInnis with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Shaw, the reigning conference champions, advances to a semifinal match-up with the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith, a rematch of last year's CIAA Tournament final,  Friday at 3 p.m.
