Lady Bears Lose First of Season
 

Augusta State’s Shundra Johnson’s three-pointer with 56 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner as # 7 Shaw lost its first game of the season 63-59 to he Lady Jaguars at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Lady Jaguars (7-1) battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit.  Shaw then held a 54-47 lead with 8:49 remaining, but Augusta State scored seven unanswered points in one minute 13 seconds to tie the score at 54-54 on a Cheryl Audain (10 points) lay-up with 7:36 remaining.  The Lady Jaguars continued to score taking a 59-54 lead on another Audain lay-up with 4:36 remaining.
 

But Shaw (6-1) would fight as Kiarsha Curtis’ three-pointer (eight points) and Margiella Mobley jumper tied the score at 59-59 with 1:30 remaining setting up Johnson’s three.
 

Jessica Hawkins led four Lady Bears that scored in double figures with 14 points.  Alshaa’ Hodges led the Lady Jaguars with a game-high 18 points.

 

The Lady Bears will be in action against Lockhaven on December 27 in the Holiday Hoopla Basketball Tournament in Ocean City, MC.
