Lady Bears Squeak by Clarion

Jessica Hawkins led Shaw with 22 points as the Lady Bears defeated Clarion 70-66 in the Holiday Hoopla Tournament.

Shaw (7-1) found itself down 20-14 with 6 minutes 8 seconds remaining in the first half.  The Lady Bears went on a 14-5 run to close out the half and led 28-25 at halftime.

Neither team would lead by more than three points in the second half until Jessica Hawkins lay-up with 6:48 remaining gave the Lady Bears a 52-47 lead.  The Lady Bears looked to pull away as three-straight steals and conversions gave the Lady Bears their biggest lead as Kiarsha Curtis’ (15 points) lay-up with 5:27 remaining gave the Lady Bears their biggest lead of the game at 59-48.  But the Golden Bulls would take advantage of Shaw miscues as Amelia Harris’ two free throws pulled the Golden Bulls to within 68-66 with :28 remaining.  On its next possession turned the ball over, but Margiella Mobley (15 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks, five steals) came up with the steal and hit two free throws to seal the victory.

Tiffany Peacock led the Golden Bulls with 21 points.

The Lady Bears will play Lockhaven in the Hoopla Tournament on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
