Lady Bears Win Classic; Mobley Named MVP

The Shaw women's basketball team opened the season 2-0 with wins over West Virginia State and West Virginia Tech in the Red Roof WV State/Tech Classic in West Virginia.  Senior forward Margiella Mobley was named classic MVP as she averaged 23 points and 16 rebounds.

On day one the Lady Bears opened the 2003-04 season with a 78-67 victory over West Virginia Tech.  It was the senior trio who came up big, led by Mobley finished with 32 points, 16 rebounds and five steals.  Latasha Shipman had 13 points and eight rebounds, while LaTonya Hall had 10 points and a career high 10 assists with three steals.  The Lady Bears forced Tech into 31 turnovers.

Yesterday Shaw defeated West Virginia State 73-63.  Kiarsha Curtis led four Lady Bears in double figures with 18 points.  Mobley had 14 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots.  Tameka Brown and Hall had 12 and 11 points, respectively.      

The Lady Bears will again be in action in the Livingstone College Classic against St. Andrews on November 21 and against Morris on November 22.
