James Boyd assists in the coaching of the Shaw University
women’s bowling program. He is currently the youth director of the YABA at AMF Capital Lanes in Raleigh.
Coach Boyd is originally from Rock Hill, SC where he attended Emmett Scott High School, York Technical College and graduated from Winthrop College. He moved to Raleigh in 1985 and he and his wife,
Dianne, the head bowling coach, have three children.
Coach “JB” bowls several leagues in Raleigh. He also bowls in both league and tournament competition. He has bowled in tournaments from the east coast to the west coast and is very experienced in bowling competition. He is the organizer, planner and secretary of the adult Sunday travel league in Raleigh and also bowls with Coach Dianne Boyd in mixed league competition.
His
duties as the Youth Director of the Saturday YABA league include planning, organizing, coordinating and leading the activities of the league. He has been a board member of the Raleigh YABA since 1987 in which the duties comprise of making rules, setting up and working in the YABA tournaments, and promoting youth bowling. He is currently an Eastern Director on the North Carolina YABA board and has held the positions of President and Vice-President of the Raleigh YABA. His training includes:

While attending the College Coaches Summit in Milwaukee in June, coach Boyd represented Shaw University and also got a chance to discuss collegiate bowling with the leading NCAA bowling coaches in the U.S. Rules, fundamentals and requirements were also topics presented at the conference.
Coach “JB” is also very committed to bowling and is looking forward to
many successful seasons with the Shaw University Lady Bears bowling team.
