DIANNE BOYD is the head coach of the Shaw University women’s bowling program. She is the University’s first bowling coach and led the Bears in their first tournaments scheduled in the CIAA 2002 season.

Coach Boyd attended Emmett Scott High School and York Technical College. She moved to Raleigh in 1985 and she and her husband James, who is also the assistant coach, have three children.

As an avid bowler, Coach Boyd bowls in both league and tournament competition. She has bowled in tournaments from the east coast to the west coast and is very experienced in bowling competition. She has been secretary of a weekly league in Raleigh for the past 10 years where her team has come in first place for 7 seasons.

She also is currently a head coach of the Saturday YABA league at AMF Capital Lanes in Raleigh and is the league’s secretary/treasurer. She has been a board member of the Raleigh YABA since 1987 in which the duties comprise of making rules, setting up and working in the YABA tournaments, and promoting youth bowling. She has been appointed a delegate to the state board representing Raleigh. Her training includes:

1992 - Registered Coach-Instructor Class
1993 - Program Advisor Class
1995 - Dick Ritger’s Academy for Coaches – Level I
1997 - USA Junior Olympic Bowling Coach – Level I
1998 - USA Junior Olympic Bowling Coach – Level II
2002 - American Sport Education Program (Training)
2002 - USA Bronze Certification

While attending the College Coaches Summit in Milwaukee in June 2002, coach Boyd represented Shaw University and got a chance to discuss collegiate bowling with the leading NCAA bowling coaches in the U.S. Rules, fundamentals and requirements were also topics presented at the conference.

Coach Boyd is very committed to bowling and is looking forward to many successful seasons with the Shaw University Lady Bears bowling team.
