MARCUS CLARKE

DIRECTOR OF COMPLIANCE

Marcus Clarke is entering his fourth year as the Shaw University Director of Compliance and he is responsible for reviewing the eligibility status and monitors grades of all student-athletes, along with keeping the athletic administration and coaches aware of any compliance issues as they relate to the athletic department or the coaches individual programs.

Prior to joining the SU family in 2002, Clarke had a successful tenure at Virginia Union University as Athletic Trainer, Cross Country and Track Coach, along with serving as Director of Compliance.

He began his collegiate athletic career serving as Head Athletic Trainer at VUU in 1992.  During that time his professional experience was recognized at the Olympic level, as he was selected to serve as the Team Athletic Trainer for the British Virgin Islands Olympic Team that participated in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA.

In 1996 VUU offered him the opportunity to showcase his coaching talents as he was named the Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach.  He served in that position from 1996 through the 2002 season and was selected CIAA Women’s Coach of the Year in Outdoor Track in 2001.

Clarke began his athletic administrative career in 2000 when he was named VUU’s Director of Compliance and served in that position until 2002.  His knowledge and professionalism is definitely respected by his peers as he continues to serve as liaison to the CIAA Compliance Directors Association.

Clarke is a 1990 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and is married to Sabrina Clarke and they are the proud parents of two children, Marissa (9) and Maurice (5).
