RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's and women's cross country programs will compete in the Adidas XC Challenge hosted by N.C. State Friday, Sept. 15 at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The event is free and open to the public.
The Meet: The Adidas XC Challenge will be split into races (Red – non-Division I/club) and (White-Division I). Shaw will compete in the "Red" events with the men's 6k race scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., following the women's race at 5:35 p.m. The grand total of athletes competing in the event is 546 athletes that features 247 men and 299 women between all four collegiate races.
Additionally, the "Red" races include 269 athletes (125 men and 144 women) from 16 programs or clubs. Shaw will join institutions such as Barton, Fayetteville State, Hampden-Sydney, Meredith N.C. Wesleyan, Randolph, Virginia Wesleyan, St. Andrews, William Peace and Winston-Salem State.
Lady Bears: Shaw women's xc enter Friday's meet after a sixth place finish in their season opener at the VSU opener. The Lady Bears were led by senior Briona May (Hampton, VA) who finished 10th overall with a time of 22:35.33.
Bears: Shaw men's xc is coming off a fifth place finish at the VSU opener led by freshman Mike Lagat (Eldoret, Kenya) who placed first overall with a time of 26:11.4. In addition, Lagat was named the CIAA Men's XC Runner of the Week for his performance.
Up Next: Shaw will return to the course on Sept. 30 at the Greensboro Invitational in Greensboro, N.C.
