RICHMOND, Va. – The Shaw University women's cross country team placed ninth overall with a total of 226 points at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference (CIAA) Championships on Thursday, Oct. 27 at Joseph Bryan Park in Richmond, Va. Junior Briona May (Hampton, VA) paced the Lady Bears with a 5k time of 21:29.69 for 30th overall out of 74 runners.
Finishing behind May for the Lady Bears was senior Muriel Evans (Sumter, SC) who finished with a time of 21:52.35 for 35th, while junior Tearra Arrington (Newport News, VA) and sophomore Kyla Saunders (Hampton, VA) placed 50th and 51st (23:31.83 and 23:32.21).
Winston-Salem State won the women's championship for the second consecutive season with 27 points and a team time of 96:31.81 after Domtila Kiplagat of WSSU claimed the individual medalist honor for the second consecutive year with a first place time of 18:35.35. Virginia Union and Johnson C. Smith placed second and third respectively, with total points of 106 and 114.
