RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Shaw University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference (CIAA) Championships on Friday, Oct. 27 at Joseph Bryan Park in Richmond, Va.

The women's championship 5k race is scheduled to being at 10 a.m. and the men's 8k championship race will follow at 11 a.m. The championships are free and open to the public.

The top 10 runners in the race will capture all-conference honors.

Last year, Shaw recorded a total of three all-conference runners, including returner DayQuan Chapman (Winterville, NC) who placed 10th overall. The Bears finished fifth overall at the 2015 CIAA championships while the Lady Bears tabbed a fourth place finish led by then-seniors Jazmina Paris-Morris and Merideth Alexander – who were named All-CIAA.

Winston-Salem State University claimed the women's 5k race title and Virginia Union University grabbed the men's 8k race crown a year ago.
