LADY BEARS CROSS COUNTRY PLACES FIFTH IN PANTHER XC CLASSIC

RICHMOND, Va. – The Shaw University women's cross country team placed fifth overall at the Panther Cross Country Classic hosted by Virginia Union University Friday afternoon in its final meet before the CIAA Cross Country Championships. Shaw finished the day with 118 points on the day.

 

In a field of 80 runners, junior Briona May (Hampton, VA) placed 13th overall with a time of 20:35.6 while senior Muriel Evans (Sumter, SC) finished 22nd at 21:55.7 and sophomore Kyla Samders (Hampton, VA) came across the finish line at 23:34.9 (30th overall).

 

Winston-Salem State won the race with a total of 26 points, while Virginia Union and Southern Virginia placed second and third, respectively. Domtila Kiplagat won the women's 5k race with a time of 17:36.3, followed by teammate Fawzia Kheir and Kaitlyn Garcia of Southern Virginia for second and third with times of 17:41.2 and 18:31.0.

 

Shaw will look to compete in the CIAA Cross Country on Oct. 27 in Mechanicsville, Va.
