CARY, NC – The Shaw University men's and women's cross country team completed the HBCU Challenge at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday. The men finished 10th overall and seventh among Division II institutions, while the women placed 14th overall and ninth among Division II schools.
For the men's 8k race, DayQuan Chapman (Winterville, NC) came in first for the Bears with a time of 30:13.3 for 41st overall out of 115 runners, while Mauricio Gonzalez (Leon, Mexico) finished 49th at 30:41.4. Alphonso Boone (Emporia, VA) rounded out the top three finishers for Shaw, placing 64th (31:57.3).
As for the Lady Bears, Briona May (Hampton, VA) continues to pace Shaw as she finished the women's 5k race with a time of 22:53.5 for 42nd overall out of 113 runners. Muriel Evans (Sumter, SC) placed 74th (25:12.4) and Kyla Sanders (Hampton, VA) finished 76th (25:32.8).
Shaw will return to action on Friday, Oct. 7 to participate in the Panther XC Classic in Richmond, VA hosted by Virginia Union.
