Lady Bears Place Third in 2014 CIAA Cross Country Championship

CARY, NC -- The Shaw women's Cross Country team finished third in the 2014 CIAA Championships held at WakeMed Soccer Park Thursday morning.

Jazmina Paris-Morris was the top finisher for the Lady Bears, crossing the finish line in second place with a time of 19:32.74.

Merideth Alexander finished second for the Lady Bears, crossing the finish line in fourth place with a time of 19:33.45. Which is down from her time of 20:49.52 at last year's championship.

Muriel Evans was the next Shaw runner to finish with a time of 21:24.24, good for 17th place.

Briona May and Tiye Cheatham both had season-best times over the five-kilometer course.

The Lincoln University won the women's championship with Winston-Salem State coming in second.  Virginia State and Virginia Union rounded out the top five.

Both Paris-Morris and Alexander each gained All-CIAA recognition at the CIAA Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. The top 10 men's and women's runners at the event were named to their respective all-conference teams.

The Lady Bears complete their season on November 22 when they run in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional race.
