CARY, N.C. - The Shaw women's cross country team finished tenth in the Adidas Cross Country Invitational held at the WakeMed Cross Country Course Friday afternoon. North Carolina State took the top spot at the event, while UNC-Chapel Hill finished second and East Carolina third. Eleven teams competed in the event.
"I'm pleased with the way they ran today," said Shaw head coach William Montague. "This is a young team and this is only their second race. There's room for improvement, but overall I'm pleased."
Shaw finished third out of the four CIAA teams competing in the event. Winston-Salem State was the top conference finisher followed by Saint Augustine's, Shaw, then Fayetteville State.
Sammara Green was the first Lady Bear to cross the finish line with a time of 23:21.8 over the five-kilometer course. The time was good for 92nd. Moneaque Baker finished next for Shaw, with a time of 25:18.8. She finished in 109th position. Tahonna Farmer finished 121st for the Lady Bears with a time of 28:01.6.
The Lady Bears next run on Friday, September 21 when they travel to Greenville, NC for the East Carolina Invitational. Start is at 6:00 p.m.
