RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team will play its final regular season home match Thursday, Nov. 9 against cross-town rival Saint Augustine's inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Shaw (24-4, 14-1 CIAA) will also be honoring two seniors, libero Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) and outside hitter Deja Simpson (Orlando, FL) who will play their final home match on Thursday. The Lady Bears are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Fayetteville State Monday. Shaw captured the CIAA Southern Division title for the second-consecutive year led by two-time CIAA Coach of the Year, DiShondra Goree in her fourth season. In addition, Goree was named CIAA Coach of the Week for the third time this season on Tuesday.
The Lady Bears are 7-0 at home this season.
Meanwhile, the Lady Falcons (5-10, 5-10 CIAA) look to extend their winning streak to two-straight after a 2-0 win over Livingstone in their last outing.
Thursday's match will be the second time the two teams meet this season. The Lady Bears swept the Lady Falcons back on Oct. 12 in Emery Gymnasium. Shaw has won the last six outings against SAU.
Following the regular season finale, Shaw will look to compete in the 2017 CIAA Volleyball Championships on Nov. 17-19 in Petersburg, Va. More details about the championships will be forth coming.
