RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball squad will host their annual Dig Pink game in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Monday, Oct. 16 during their 6 p.m. Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division match with Livingstone College inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears are encouraging all fans and spectators to wear pink to show support and raise awareness for the countless lives breast cancer has affected.
This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. Shaw defeated the Lady Blue Bears 3-0 back on Sept. 21 in Salisbury, N.C. The Lady Bears enter Monday's contest with a 19-3 overall record, 10-1 in the CIAA and 4-1 against division opponents.
Shaw is coming off a 3-2 five-set win at Claflin Saturday. Junior Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) and sophomore's Amari Fletcher (Phoenix, AZ) and Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, LA) all recorded 12 kills each in the win. The Lady Bears were down 2-0 against the Lady Panthers before coming back to win three-straight sets for the victory and series sweep over Claflin.
Livingstone stands 3-11 overall and 3-8 in conference action this season. The Lady Blue Bears have not won a division game this season with a 0-5 start. LC suffered a 3-0 defeat by Winston-Salem State on Thursday, Oct. 12. The Lady Blue Bears are currently 2-3 on the road.
After the Lady Bears clash with Livingstone, Shaw will look to participate in a Tri-Match hosted by Barton College on Oct. 21. The Lady Bears will take on a tough Mount Olive team at 2 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a 4 p.m. start against a competitive Bulldogs team.
