RALEIGH, NC – Coming off a 3-0 weekend at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up last weekend, the Shaw University women's volleyball team will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 21 when they travel to Livingstone College for a CIAA Southern Division contest at 6 p.m., followed by a home match against Lees McCrae on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
Shaw: The Lady Bears are 10-2 overall and 3-0 within the league. During the conference round-up, juniors Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) and Saraya Klink (Fuquay-Varina, NC) recorded 26 total kill apiece. Junior Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez combined for 50 assists while junior Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) and senior Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) recorded 29 stops apiece.
So far on the season, the Lady Bears are 3-0 on the road and 2-0 at home. Shaw currently owns a six-game win-streak and will look to extend the streak to eight with wins against Livingstone and Lees McCrae.
Livingstone: The Lady Blue Bears are 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the CIAA. LC is coming off a 3-0 win over Elizabeth City State at the CIAA Round-Up in Bowie, Md. Shantell Billups charted 24 kills and 13 digs for the weekend, including 10 kills and seven digs against Bowie State. Setter, Stevee Cotton collected 64 assists and 15 digs. Entering Thursday's match, the Lady Blue Bears are 0-1 at home.
Thursday's contest will be both team's first division contest on the season. Last season, Shaw swept Livingstone twice by the score 3-0.
Lees McCrae: The Bobcats (0-7) are still in search of their first win on the season having lost to North Greenville, 3-2 on Sept. 16. The Bobcats had three players chart double-doubles against NGU. Caitlyn Smirne leads the team in kills with 52 total on the year while Lexi Zangari has 47 for second. Lees McCrae is scheduled to take on Virginia-Wise Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Friday's contest has been tagged as "Family Night" and will offer live statistics and video on www.shawbears.com.
