RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women's volleyball team blanked the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine's University on Friday night inside Emery Gymnasium for its final regular season road contest on the season. The Lady Bears defeated SAU in three straight sets by the scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-16.
With the win, Shaw sweeps the season series over the Lady Falcons and improves to 18-7 overall, 14-1 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and 8-1 within the Southern Division. SAU drops to 9-13 overall, 7-9 in conference play and 4-6 in the south.
The Lady Bears were led by its sophomore tandem Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) and Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) who both contributed 10 kills apiece. Wattley also tallied a match-high seven blocks while freshman Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, LA) added seven kills and five blocks.
Shaw hit .359 for the match, including a .571 percentage in the second set as the Lady Bears never felt threatened entire way.
The Lady Bears will conclude the 2016 regular season with a home finale against Johnson C. Smith for Senior Night. Shaw will honor one senior, Briana Wilson (Columbia, SC) before the first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. Should the Lady Bears win against JCSU, Shaw will own the division title for the first time since 2004.
