LAURINBURG, NC – The Shaw University women's volleyball team earned a 3-2 victory over Saint Andrews College on Thursday evening for a non-conference match at Harris Court. The victory snaps a four-game losing skid against the Knights as the Lady Bears split the season series with a 1-1 record against SAC.
Shaw came up short 26-24 in the opening set before dropping the second frame, 25-21 but the Lady Bears recovered to win the third and fourth set with a 25-21 and 25-13 win. In the final stanza, Shaw came out on top with a 15-9 clip to win the contest.
The win improves Shaw to 15-6 overall, while the Knights fall to 17-12 on the year.
The Lady Bears were led by freshman Aisja Jones (Red Oak, TX)who punched in a career-high 16 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) added 14 kills and 22 digs. Sophomore Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) handed out a match-high 51 assists, while senior Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) managed a teams-best 24 digs.
Shaw will return to action on Monday, Oct. 31 for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference (CIAA) Southern Division contest at foe Winston-Salem State University. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. The Lady Bears defeated the Rams on Oct. 6 in Raleigh, 3-1.
