FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Shaw University women's volleyball team's 14-game winning-streak was snapped by the hands of Fayetteville State University with a 3-2 loss on Saturday, Oct. 22 in Capel Arena.
The Lady Bears lost the first set 25-17 before charging back with a 25-21 win in set two but FSU took the third with the score 25-20. Shaw staged their comeback in the match with a 25-23 win in set four but came up short 15-13 in the final fifth set.
The setback drops the Shaw to 14-6 overall, 11-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference (CIAA) and 5-1 within the division. FSU improves to 12-5 overall, 8-3 in the league and 4-1 in the Southern Division.
Sophomore's Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) and Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) both tallied 14 kills apiece. Sophomore setter Michlle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) dished out 36 assists, while Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) collected 28 digs. Murphy also added 13 digs in the effort.
Shaw will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 27 when they travel to Saint Andrew's for a nonconference tilt at 6:30 p.m.
