RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women's volleyball team improved to 8-0 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference, 11-5 overall, with its 3-0 win against Bowie State University on Sunday afternoon. Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) finished with a game-high nine kills in the victory, while freshman tandem's Amari Fletcher (Phoenix, AZ) and Corey Rivens (Charlotte, NC) had a career-high seven kills apiece.
Bowie State falls to 2-10 and 1-8 in the CIAA.
Collectively, the Lady Bears received contribution from each player on its 14-man roster. Setter Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) earned 31 assists, while Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) finished with a game-high seven digs.
The Lady Bears never allowed Bowie State to earn more than 17 points per set, winning 28-8, 25-9 and 25-17. They outhit the Bulldogs for a hitting percentage of .269 for the contest en route to its 11-straight and sixth consecutive 3-0 sweep over an opponent.
Shaw returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 6 in a much anticipated matchup versus Winston-Salem State University in Spaulding gym for a CIAA Southern Division contest.
