CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven-straight with a 3-0 triumph over Johnson C. Smith Monday night inside BrayBoy Gymnasium. With the win, the Lady Bears improve to 7-5 overall, 5-0 in CIAA conference play and 2-0 in the Southern Division while the Golden Bulls dropped to 2-7 overall, 1-4 in the league and 0-2 in the division.
The Lady Bears won the first set by the score of 25-14 after a kill from Aisja Jones (Red Oak, TX) that led to an 8-0 run to secure the win. In the second set, Shaw ballooned to a 10-2 lead before cruising to the 25-18 victory sparked by six kills from Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI). The Lady Bears controlled the third set, leading by as many as 11 points before owning a 25-18 set win and the 3-0 sweep.
For the contest, Shaw hit the Golden Bulls with a balanced attack as Kelly Murphy (Mukwango, WI) and Wattley each finished with 15 and 14 kills, while freshman tandem Jones and Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, LA) notched five kills apiece in addition to Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez's (San Juan, PR) 40 assists for a game-high.
The Lady Bears hit .361 for the match, including a season-high .529 clip in the second set and held JCSU to -.039 percentage. Shaw's defense also collected 19 digs and three blocks in the match.
