LADY BEARS DOWNS SAINT AUGUSTINE’S, 3-0

RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Shaw University women's volleyball team conquered a 3-0 victory over cross-town rival Saint Augustine's University in the final regular season match of the 2015 season, beating the Lady Falcons in straight sets, 25-23, 30-28, and 25-13 for senior night.

Courtnie Cook (Okinawa, Japan) was the lone senior for the Lady Bears as she was honored before tonights contest.

The Lady Bears (19-10, 12-4 CIAA) had twice as many kills (47-23) and held a 7-5 advantage in service aces during the win. Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) paced SU with a double-digit in kills with 13 to go along with four digs. Deja Simpson (Orlando, FL) finished with 11 kills and six digs. Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) tallied a match-high 41 assists and Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) led the Lady Bears defensively with 17 digs.

 

The Lady Bears had just .184 attacking percentage in the win, but .480 in the third set that the Lady Bears won by the score of 25-13.

Shaw will now await the seeding for the 2015 CIAA Volleyball Championship in Fayetteville, NC.
