RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Saint Andrews University in a nonconference matchup on Tuesday night inside CC Spaulding Gymnasium.
Despite the Lady Bears (12-8 overall) 67 kills compared to the Lady Knights (15-7 overall) 53, it would not be enough to secure the victory as Shaw dropped the first two sets 28-26, 26-24 before winning set three 25-23 but falling 25-23 in set four.
Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) led SU with 26 kills and 12 digs, while Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) hit .255 for 19 kills. Setter Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) tallied 62 assists and 16 assists, while Deja Simpson (Orlando, FL) and Ladazia Burris (Mt. Holly, NC) both had 16 and 17 digs, respectively.
The Lady Knights' offense was led by Lindsey Wagner who notch 12 kills and nine digs. Anna Felice and Tessa Smith both had double-digits in the kill column with 11 and 10, respectively. Jade Lynch dished out 43 assists and five digs, while Nora Darrhar finished with 23 digs to lead the defensive efforts.
SAU captured the first and second set with a hitting percentage of .217 and .324, posting a combined 32 kills. In the third set, SU rallied from behind to tie the game at 22-22 in route to the set victory before falling in set four after committing 11 errors.
Shaw will look to recover against Limestone College on Oct. 23rd in Gaffney, SC. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
