RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team swept the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College for the second time on the season, sweeping the season series for the first time since the 2006-2007 season on Monday, Oct. 19th inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
With the victory, Shaw (12-7 overall, 6-3 CIAA) holds a 5-1 record overall in divisional play, while Livingstone (7-9 overall, 2-5 CIAA) drops to 2-4 in the division.
In the first set, the Lady Bears registered 15 kills and hit .333, while capitalizing on five errors by the Lady Blue Bears who hit just .095 in the set. SU's hitting percentage declined in the second set but managed to collect five service aces to LC's two which would deny the Lady Blue Bears chance to rally back. Finally, in set three, the Lady Bears looked to have had control most of the set until the LC scored six unanswered points late but with the lead the entire set, SU held on for the win on a kill by Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI).
Mattisen Williams led the Lady Blue Bears with nine kills, while Stevee Cotton posted 17 assists and Lareecia Swiney tallied seven digs. LC was held to a .127 hitting percentage and suffered 79 total errors in the match.
Shaw will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 20th, when they host Saint Andrews for a nonconference matchup at 7 p.m.
