RALEIGH, N.C. – The Lady Bears scored seven unanswered points to comeback and defeat the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine's University 3-2 on Wednesday evening inside Emery Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Lady Bears (11-6, 5-3 CIAA) clinch their fourth consecutive win and improve in to 4-1 in divisional play as the Lady Falcons suffer their second consecutive loss in the last three contests. The set score were 25-23, 25-22, 25-19, 26-24, and 15-13.
Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) recorded a career-high 30 kills and 23 digs, and Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) added 18 kills and 8 digs. Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) registered a career-high and game-high 66 assists and 19 digs, while Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) had 27 digs.
The two teams battled in the first set but the Lady Bears would come out on top to secure the win. The Lady Falcons rallied back in the second set as SU trailed the entire way, dropping the 25-22 decision before building a 22-18 lead in the third set en route to victory.
Finally in the fifth set, SU trailed 13-8 until a kill by Murphy ignited the Lady Bears run to victory.
SAU was led by Olivia Porter who tallied 17 kills and 20 digs, while Brittany Jamison added 12 kills and Zoey Isom charted 29 digs. Juliseea Thomas led the setters with 31 assists and 11 digs.
Shaw will return to action on Saturday, October 17th when they travel to Bluefield, WV to compete in the Bluefield State tri-match. The Lady Bears will face Concord at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup against Bluefield State at 4 p.m.
