FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The visiting Shaw University women's volleyball team held the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University to just 29 kills as they swept FSU 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-21) for the first time since 1999 on Monday evening inside Felton J. Capel Arena.
The Lady Bears (10-6, 4-3 CIAA) improved in their third consecutive contest and is 3-1 in divisional play, while FSU (5-9 overall, 3-4 CIAA) posted its second consecutive loss and a 1-2 record in the division.
Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) logged 13 kills at the net and 14 digs, while Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez added a match-high 31 assists. The Garnet and White collected seven team blocks as Morghan Robinson (Anaheim, CA) and Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) both had a solo block, including four and three block assist, respectively.
In set one, both teams exchanged points but SU jumped out to a 15-12 lead to pull away from the Lady Broncos, while the second set was more of the same as the Lady Bears rallied from behind to take the win before capturing the final set in similar fashion.
The Lady Bears turn right around and travel to cross-town rival Saint Augustine's on Wednesday, Oct. 14th to take on the Lady Falcons in a 6 p.m. match.
