RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team held the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University to 17 kills as the Lady Bears boasted 36 kills and 16 service aces to take a 3-0 CIAA victory on Monday evening in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears (7-5, 3-2 CIAA) posted its second-consecutive win in the Southern Division, while the Lady Golden Bulls dropped to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in the league.
In set one, Shaw used a 10-6 run to carry the Lady Bears to a 25-19 victory. Similar to the first set, the Lady Bears never let up to take a 21-10 lead midway through before sealing that set. Shaw captured the final set in a great fashion to grab the 3-0 win.
Shaw had six different players register at least one kill in the contest. Freshman Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) handed out 31 assists as the Garnet and White collected four team blocks.
The Lady Golden Bulls was led by Anteesha Smoots who tallied five kills and Khadijah Segura dished out 14 assists.
The Lady Bears will face off against the Lincoln and Virginia Union in the CIAA Round-Up on Saturday, Oct. 3 with a 12 p.m. start in Lincoln, Pa.
