SALISBURY, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team took three straight sets from Livingstone (25-19, 25-14, 25-18) on Thursday evening in a Southern Division contest inside New Trent Gymnasium.
Shaw post a 6-5 overall record, 2-2 in CIAA play and 1-0 in the division, while the Lady Blue Bears drop to 3-7 overall, 0-4 in the league and 0-1 in the division.
Freshman Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) paced the Lady Bears with a match-high 10 kills and five digs, while freshman Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, VI) added nine kills and freshman Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) handed out 20 assists.
Each of the three sets was close in the beginning, but the Lady Bears managed to pull away all three sets to secure the wins.
The Lady Bears aided 45 points to the Livingstone's 28, accounting for 12 aces while the Lady Blue Bears tallied just three and a 26-14 advantage in assists.
LC's Lareecia Swiney tallied 10 kills in the loss and Shantell Billups added a match-high five blocks while also dishing out seven assists.
Shaw will rest for a few days before hosting Johnson C. Smith in a Southern Division matchup on Monday, September 28th in CC Spaulding Gymnasium. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
