RALEIGH, N.C. - Freshman Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago, WI) had 12 kills and nine digs to pace the Lady Bears to a 3-1 victory over Concordia (AL) on Thursday night inside CC Spaulding Gymnasium.
Junior Deja Simpson (Orlando, FL) tallied 10 kills and nine digs, while freshman Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Jaun, Puerto Rico) collected 28 assists and sophomore Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) chipped in 11 digs.
The Lady Bears (2-2) pulled away in set one with a 10-3 lead halfway through the frame. The Lady Hornets would not recover from the deficit as Shaw claimed the win.
Concordia (AL) was able to rally back in the second set, taking a 25-18 decision over the Lady Bears.
Shaw battled back in set three after a 4-0 lead midway through to claim a 25-15 win. Both teams would battle back and forth before the Lady Bears would take over the momentum and hold on to secure a 25-18 victory.
The Lady Bears return to action on Saturday, September 12 to host their second Tri-Match of the season that will feature Allen and Saint Augustine's. First serve is slated for 10 a.m.
