LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Shaw University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-2 setback to Saint Andrews for their road opener on Wednesday night inside Harris Court.
Both teams are 1-2 on the season after tonights contest.
The Lady Bears was led by freshman Kelly Murphy (Mukwango, WI) who recorded her first double-double and season-high with 19 kills and 12 digs, while freshman Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix) added career-high 15 kills and both freshman Morghan Robinson (Anaheim, CA) and junior Deja Simpson (Orlando, FL) tallied 11 kills apeice to aid the effort.
Shaw got off to a slow start that allowed the Knights to take the first set, however the Lady Bears would rally to take sets two and three (25-23, 25-20).
Just when it appeared as if the Lady Bears were in control of the game, the Knights would recover and close set four with a 25-20 advantage before getting out to a 6-0 lead to start game five.
Despite Shaw's effort to rally back, the Knights would hold them off to squeak out a 15-11 win.
The Lady Bears return to action on Thursday, September 10 when they host Concordia (AL) for a non-conference matchup. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
