Shaw Volleyball Downs Morris 3-1

 

RALEIGH, N.C.  - The Shaw University volleyball team held off a hard-charging Morris College to come away with a 3-1 win in a game played Saturday morning at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.  With the win, the surging Lady Bears improve to 7-4 on the season and have won seven of their last eight games.

 

After dropping a close first set 25-23, the Lady Bears battled back claiming the second and third sets by identical 25-22 scores.  They then cruised to a 25-15 fourth set win.

 

Sashane Watson had a stellar performance for Shaw with 16 kills, eight digs and a block.  Shaye Walton and Crystal Gordon had ten kills apiece.  Michelle Oliver paced Shaw with five service aces, while Courtnee Kelly had 34 assists and Jolene Arroyo nine digs to lead the Lady Bears.

 

Shaw returns to action Monday, September 24 when they host division rival Winston-Salem  State at 6:00 p.m. in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on the Shaw campus.  The game is free and open to the public.
