LADY BEARS MAKE PROGRAM HISTORY AT PENN RELAYS

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Shaw University women's outdoor track and field team made program history as the Lady Bears wrapped up competition at the Penn Relays on Saturday at Franklin Field.

 

Sophomore Tiarra Derosa placed fifth amongst colleges in the discus with a throw of 48.91. Runners of sophomore Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica), junior Tashay Roberts (Bloomfield, CT), freshman Damoni Neal (Newport News, VA) and junior LaCherie Clarke (Raleigh, NC) were winners of heat seven in the 4x400-meter relay. SU recorded a finish time of 3:56.38.

 

The highlights were the first in program history as all members received a medal for their outstanding performances.

 

Other Notable Highlights:

  • Sophomore Laquel Harris finished 17th overall in the discus throw with a mark of 41.50m.
  • Freshman Tyefah Saunders (Kingston, Jamaica) grabbed 17th place in the shot put with a throw of 13.65m.
  • In the 4x100 relay, the Lady Bears placed 47th with a recording time of 48.85.

 

Shaw returns to action May 5-6 for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Bowie, Md.
