NEWCOMERS SHOW BALANCE FOR SHAW AT AGGIE INVITATIONAL

GREENSBORO, NC – Shaw University placed eight events in the top 15 of the 2017 Aggie Invitational this past weekend hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.

 

NOTEWORTHY:

-          Freshman Amari Fletcher (Phoenix, AZ) placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 25.58 meters.

 

-          Junior Bianca Maxwell (London, England) placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 10.10 meters.

 

-          Freshman Corey Rivens (Charlotte, NC) tabbed ninth overall in the shot put at 9.24 meters in her second debut.

 

-          Senior Destinee Williams (Leesburg, FL) finished 12th overall in the 100 meter hurdles, coming in with a time of 14.57.

 

-          Sophomore Kyla Sanders (Hampton, VA) placed 11th in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:08.98.

 

-          The Lady Bears recorded a sixth place finish with a time of 47.58 in the 4x100 meter relay which consisted of runners Williams, Tearra Arrington (Newport News, VA), Yanika McCrea (Trout Hall, Jamaica) and LaCherie Clarke (Garner, NC).

 

-          In the 1500 meter run, freshman Kaydi Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica) placed 10th with a time of 5:38.18 while teammate junior Briona May (Hampton, VA) followed with a 11th place finish (5:46.21).

The Lady Bears will participate in the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Championships that will be held on April 21-22 in Bowie, Md.
