DEROSA SHINES IN 49ERS CLASSIC FOR SEASON OPENER

CHARLOTTE, NC – Freshman Tiara Derosa (Sandys, Bermuda) of the Shaw University women's outdoor track and field team placed fifth the women's discus as the Lady Bears completed the 49ers Classic for its season opener Saturday afternoon.

 

In her season debut, Derosa earned the fifth place finish with a throw of 38.65 meters amongst both Division I and II institutions. Edinboro's Gabby Schultz won the event with a throw of 44.25 meters.

 

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

-          Senior Destinee Williams (Leesburg, FL) finished 11th with a time of 14.83 in the 100 meter hurdles preliminaries.

-          The Lady Bears placed 19th in the 4x100 meter relay after crossing the finish line at 50.37.

-          Amongst the CIAA, Shaw recorded the fourth fastest time in the 4x400 meter relay at 4:09.11.

-          Derosa fifth place finish in the discus now leads the CIAA conference at 38.65m., while fresman Amari Fletcher (Phoenix, AZ) ranks seventh overall (21.48m).

The Lady Bears will participate in the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Va. on Friday, Mar. 25 and Saturday, Mar. 26.
