Track Team Runs Well At Braves Track and Field Classic
The Bears and Lady Bears of the Shaw track team won 12 events at Wednesday's Braves Track and Field Classic held at UNC-Pembroke.
Also included in the field were UNC-Pembroke, Belmont Abbey and Saint Andrew's.
Early in the meet, the 4x100 relay team of Shareka Mitchell, Cherell Williams, Delilah Badgett and Chloe Frame took the event with a time of 49.18 – four full seconds ahead of the second place team, also from Shaw (Jerrica Johnson, Danielle Reid, Kiara Arrington, and Joi Briscoe.
Raychelle Johnson swept the two women's distance runs, winning both the 1500 meter and the 800 meter contests. Badgett took home the medal in the 100 meter dash.
Willie Stanley won the men's 800 meter run as well as the men's long jump.
Briscoe took scored two wins as well, topping the field in both the women's triple jump and javelin throw. Michael Hines doubled up for the me, winning in both the men's high jump and triple jump.
Rounding out the Shaw winners were Dontrell Brennan in the men's shot put and Alexander Self in the javelin throw.
The Bears and Lady Bears return to track action Friday and Saturday March 26 and 27 at the Reebok Raleigh Relays on the campus of North Carolina State.
