INDIANAPOLIS, Pa. – On Tuesday, Apr. 24, the NCAA revealed its selections and seeding's for the 2018 NCAA Division II Tennis Championships, as well as its locations for regional play. The Shaw University women's tennis program earned the Atlantic Region's No. 7 seed and will take on No. 2 seed West Virginia State (14-6) on Saturday, Apr. 28 in the first round on the campus of WVSU at the Coonskin Park in Charleston, WV. First serve is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
The Lady Bears (21-2) earned an automatic bid to the tournament after claiming its second-consecutive Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship last week. Shaw had six players earn All-Conference honors, including CIAA Player of the Year, senior Marilyne Kamegne (Yaoundé, Cameroon) and head coach Sunday Enitan was the recipient of the CIAA Women's Tennis Coach of the Year. Senior Daniela Vanko (Montreal, Quebec) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
West Virginia State, a member of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) won the regular season and conference championship to earn an automatic bid in the NCAA tournament.
The final will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday with the winner advancing to the Final 16 in Surprise, AZ, on May 8-11.
