RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw women's tennis (18-2, 12-0 CIAA) claimed the regular season Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship outright with a 5-0 victory over Elizabeth City State University (2-8, 2-8 CIAA) in its final regular season conference match of the season Monday afternoon.

Prior to the match, Shaw honored three seniors in Daniela Vanko (Quebec, Montreal), Marilyne Kamegne (Yaoundé, Cameroon) and Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria).

The Lady Bears finish the season undefeated in CIAA play with a perfect 12-0 league record, the first season without a conference since the 2013 team went 16-0.

Shaw won all three doubles, including an 8-0 decision at both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before claiming two singles victories by default.

The Lady Bears will look to defend their title as CIAA women's tennis champions beginning on Thursday, Apr. 19 in Bowie, Md., hosted by Bowie State University. Shaw will go into the tournament as the overall No. 1 seed and will likely go head-to-head with the No. 8 seed.
