RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis team will compete in their first conference test against Johnson C. Smith on Thursday, Mar. 8 at 2 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C.
The Lady Bears (2-1) outlasted Barton, 5-4 at Worthdale Park on Monday. The Lady Bears had a 2-1 lead after doubles but found themselves having to dig deep in singles action as senior Daniel Vanko (Quebec, Montreal) had to pull out two-straight 6-4 wins at the No. 1 position. Senior Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) and sophomore Helena Fekete (Belgrade, Serbia) also grabbed wins at the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.
JCSU (4-5) is coming off a 6-3 win over Bluefield State, Feb. 27. The Golden Bulls have won their last two outings and currently own a 4-3 record at home this season. Thursday's match will also mark the first conference battle for JCSU as well.
This will be the first meeting between both teams this season; Shaw swept the Golden Bulls during the 2017 campaign.
